Social Networks Like Buzz
April 16th, 2010 by admin
Social networking has become a contemporary obsession. With tens of different networks, which all essentially do the same thing, it is a bit surprising that a lot of people use at least 2-3 of these networks, if not more. Google seem to have realized this, and they are trying to make as much money out of it as possible. This seems to be why they created Buzz Blog. However, this particular social network has the same problems as the others, plus an absurd aspect on its side.
First of all, not unlike Facebook, it has serious privacy issues, because of automatic settings that reveal valuable information about users. Because of this, Google is currently facing several lawsuits, both from users and from authorities handling online privacy. The absurd part of Google Buzz is that although it was apparently created to compete with Facebook and Twitter, it openly promotes these two competitors. Moreover, Google has signed contracts which enable users to link they Google Buzz accounts to Facebook and Twitter accounts. The reality here is that Google eventually realized they couldn’t seriously compete with well established networks, so this cooperation serves to both get money out of promoting the other networks and promote its own.
If one were to thoroughly analyze the Google Buzz Guide, it would be obvious that it is simply a poor attempt at entering an already over-satisfied market. It is neither innovative nor useful, but simply another way to make profit. And the funny part is, that it is most likely working.
